A Gamer's Guide to the Non-gamer

How to deal with non-gamers.

Let's face it. We as gamers are a little... different. We think differently, we speak differently, we even look...well...different. Since most of our friends are also gamers, we tend to lose perspective about what is "normal". The fact is, there is a whole world outside of our parent's basement/ entertainment room/ computer room/ WOW themed bedroom that is waiting to be explored. Therefore we need to brush-up on a few social niceties before we head out into the big, non-polygonal, non-antialiased, non-gaming universe.

We at GWN have put together a little do's and dont's guide to help you as you take your (possibly) first steps into the real world. Take a look. Get some tips. Then get out there and get your normal on!

With The Ladies

Okay, once you leave your respective dwellings, you may find yourself in a situation where you must speak with someone of the opposite sex. Don't panic! With our handy guidelines you may end up achieving some small level of success with the ladies (or at least avoid the reflexive "mace and run" on her part).

Do / Don't:

  • Speak directly to her face / Speak 1337 at her facez0rz
  • Tell her your name / Tell her your gamertag
  • Compliment her appearance / Compliment her "charisma attribute"
  • Invite her to dinner / Invite her to "Recover some HP"
  • Say "I've heard great things about this restaurant." / Say, "Warrior needs food, badly."
  • Enjoy your food / Make 1-up noises when you eat a mushroom
  • Offer to buy her a drink / Offer to buy her a "potion of plus 5 to score"
  • Invite her back to your place for a movie / Invite her back to your parent's place to join a raid
  • Serve wine and cheese / Serve Mountain Dew and Funions
  • Invite her into your bedroom / Offer to "install" her "hot coffee mod"
  • Thank her for a lovely evening / Do a pelvic thrust victory animation
