Exhibitors IDG representatives did not return our e-mail asking for confirmation of which publishers and developers will be represented at E for All, but the company has made it known that Nintendo will be its "flagship exhibitor" for the event. "The E for All Expo supports Nintendo’s mission to reach as many types of consumers as possible to expand the world of video games to new audiences," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s (now former) senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Our Wii and Nintendo DS systems are all about gaming for the masses, and the E for All Expo will give consumers a chance to try out the hottest new Nintendo video games."
Nintendo's showing (seen here at E3 '06) should be significant, as the company feels the expo's inclusive approach mirrors their strategy as a company.
In late July, IDG posted an update to its "E for All Insider" blog that addressed the rumor that Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be playable at the event. The rumor could neither be confirmed nor denied, as an IDG spokesperson noted: "While we hope the rumors are true that Smash Brothers Brawl will be playable at E for All and that Masahiro Sakurai will be in attendance, Nintendo has not finalized their plans with us and we have no information confirming this. These are questions best answered by Nintendo at this point."
It's uncertain which exhibitors will be on board for E for All, but we'd speculate that other major publishers (like Activision, since the WSVG is holding tournaments) will be there to woo hardcore consumers in advance of the holiday season with some hands-on stations featuring their upcoming titles. Major titles set to release following the October expo include Mass Effect, Namco-Bandai's The Eye of Judgement and Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, Viva Piñata: Party Animals, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Need For Speed ProStreet, The Simpsons Game, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, Army of Two, Crysis, Super Mario Galaxy, Assassin's Creed, and more. Many of these titles were shown at E3 in a playable form, and we'd anticipate that a good handful of them will be available to demo to the public come October.
Additional Fanfaire Aside from getting an early try at some upcoming games, IDG says to expect opportunities for retailers and gamers interested in exploring a future in the industry. The event should be a solid hub for networking by itself, but a college fair, job fair, and additional seminars will also make camp on site, though we're not told to what extent or when. IDG also notes there will be opportunities for retailers and chances to meet "industry luminaries," and we'd imagine that a good number of companies representing themselves will be selling their wares on the show floor as well.
Our Take E for All is a welcome newcomer and stand-in for E3's former glory that became impractical for many journalists. An experience that tailors itself to the hardcore gaming consumer is a needed one, but we wonder how much the event will position itself as just that: an extended, albeit exclusive sales pitch for gamers curious about the latest and greatest. We're curious if E for All will do much to implement a community atmosphere over one that simply showcases products, but we're confident that IDG will hold a good event for attendees -- they've run the Macworld, Linuxworld, and GreenXchange expos for a number of years, not to mention this year's E3. For travel and lodging information, visit this section of the E for All website, through which you can contact an "E for All Housing Specialist," who can assist in finding a hotel. Ticket information can be found here, and an FAQ for attendees is listed here.
