Game of the Month
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
This was a tough call because there's just so much good to be had this month and we would have been comfortable naming almost any of the above titles as the Game of the Month. When we start picking nits, however, nothing holds up like COD4. Despite the short campaign the game keeps players coming back for more time and again with its arcade mode, item collection aspect (gotta get that Achievement for finding all the intel), and impressive online play. The XP system is mostly responsible for this as every match brings the player that much closer to a new rank, a new weapon, a new combat perk or simply some new bragging rights. The online modes are nothing we haven't seen before but rarely have we seen so many in one place and rarely have they been done so well. The level designs are impressive enough to keep players hunting for that perfect sniping location, the perfect camping spot, and the perfect place to plant a claymore or stash some C4 and wait for an unsuspecting enemy to blunder by. With Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, and Rock Band in my collection, it's COD4 that I keep coming back to and that's really saying something.
