After this year's event received almost universally poor reviews, the ESA felt the need to release a statement counteracting rumors about E3's future.
Though no details were given, an ESA rep has gone on record saying that the troubled Electronic Entertainment Expo will return. This year's event drew criticism not just from gamers but from industry big wigs. EA CEO John Riccitiello said his company might do its own show if E3 doesn't improve.
In 2006 the ESA decided the show had grown too big for its own good, so it went to an invite-only format. The 2007 show moved from the Los Angeles Convention Center to Santa Monica and most attendees were unhappy with that setup. The aftermath of that debacle brought it back to the L.A. Convention Center. But many attendees still thought it looked drab and desolate.
The show wasn't helped by the first ever E3 keynote by a politician, Texas Gov. Rick Perry. He spoke about the gaming biz to a nearly empty room. Combine that with lackluster press conferences from the three main console makers and almost nobody came away happy. GWN will keep following this ongoing news story.
