The graphics in the game look extremely similar to the SNES classic, but with a brighter, slightly sharper look and less pastel work done on the background. To be honest, I was a little disappointed that the graphics look so similar to the original because I know that the DS is capable of so much more.
That’s not to say that the game doesn’t look good, because the original Yoshi’s Island was easily one of the most beautiful games of the SNES era. It’s just that after games like Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and New Super Mario Brothers which both look amazing compared to previous titles in their series, it is a little disappointing that Yoshi’s Island 2 looks so similar to its 11 year old predecessor.
Finally, the box art for Yoshi’s Island 2 was revealed recently and it displayed a few interesting tidbits. The first, as previously mentioned was Baby Wario and Baby Bowser, both of whom were not featured in the E3 demo. Even more surprising than that was the trademark WiFi Enabled emblem that Nintendo only places on games that you are able to play online.
What kind of online gameplay could be put into Yoshi’s Island? Could there be some online enabled minigames that use the touch screen like in New Super Mario Brothers and Super Mario 64? Maybe some kind of race to the finish? Any guess right now is pure speculation, but the one thing that is certain is that Yoshi’s Island 2 is looking to be a game with enormous potential, and we can’t wait until we get our hands on the full version when it hits stores on November 13.
