The clincher, however, that makes Planet Puzzle League a must buy for all puzzle fans is the fact that it sports full Wi-Fi support. By getting onto the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you can jump into a standard one on one match up against other players from around the world. Unfortunately, like all other DS Wi-Fi enabled games, the online play is pretty bare bones with only one mode of play available and the fact that you can’t communicate with your opponent unless you actually have their friend code.

An expert of this game could probably clear every single block on the screen in a single chain combo.

One interesting aspect to take note of with the online mode is the Birthday Battle mode. In this mode your record is matched up against other people that share the same birthday as you. It’s somewhat odd, but it does feel a little cool to know that you’re the top player that was born on your birthday.

In the end, what it really comes down to is that Planet Puzzle League is essentially Tetris DS for Panel de Pon fans. It’s got a huge variety of single player modes that are all worth sinking your teeth into, gameplay that is enhanced dramatically thanks to the addition of stylus based control, and most importantly, fantastic online multiplayer support. If you’re like me and consider Panel de Pon to be the greatest puzzle game ever made, then you owe it to yourself to pick this one up and provide some much needed extra competition on Wi-Fi.

Highs
Simple, yet very deep combo system provides for some of the most intense action you’ll find in a puzzle game; Dangerously addictive; Stylus control makes chain combos much easier and more fun; Great music; 240 puzzles in the single player game for you to solve; Wi-Fi enabled!

Lows
Presentation is a little bland; No story for the Vs. Com mode like there was in Tetris Attack and Pokemon Puzzle League; Online interface for Nintendo Wi-Fi games still sucks.

Final Verdict
While Tetris DS may have Planet Puzzle League beat in terms of presentation and in the number of players that can play it, the core gameplay in this game is, in this reviewer’s opinion, the pinnacle of puzzle gaming.
