A reminder of why you loved platforming games so much.
While Microsoft and Sony struggle to find just the right formula for selling consoles and games, Nintendo continues to see nothing but blue skies and calm waters for their DS portable. The amount of hardware and software sold for the system is, for lack of a better word, gaudy.
Following on the heels of last year’s Mega Man ZX offering, we just recently received a copy of Mega Man ZX Advent. While we sometimes make tongue-in-cheek remarks regarding the number of sequels turned out by game developers, Mega Man is one of the formula games that rarely produces a bad experience. Each offering remains true to the recipe that has made the series successful for two decades.
The newest release places you in the roles of “Ashe” and “Grey”. While I often downplay the importance of a good narrative in handheld titles, Mega Man ZX Advent does a nice job of mixing up the “war between humans and robot” story just enough so that playing through the game with each character provides you with an intertwining story.
Mega Man ZX Advent offers a bit of fresh air when it comes to the level design. Rather than just running from left to right, as you would in a traditional platformer, you’re only allowed access to certain parts of the game from the beginning. As you explore, perform tasks and collect key cards, you slowly gain access to other areas and experience new levels of game play.
